IUPAT District Council 82 Endorses Congressman Tom Emmer in Minnesota’s 6th District

Little Canada, MN- Monday afternoon the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT) District Council 82 announced their endorsement of Congressman Tom Emmer (R, MN06) following a Thursday afternoon union delegate vote.

“Since elected, Emmer has voted to protect Davis-Bacon and the use of Project Labor Agreements (PLAs),” said Terry Nelson, Business Manager of District Council 82. “He has been committed to learning our issues and building a relationship with our members. We look forward to continuing to work with the Congressman in the years to come.”

Congressman Emmer is running for reelection to his 2nd term representing the 6th Congressional District. In 2014, he won his election bid by nearly 20 points.

The IUPAT District Council 82 represents nearly 400 workers in Minnesota’s 6th Congressional District and 3,000 throughout Minnesota. IUPAT members work in commercial and industrial painting, glazing and glasswork, drywall finishing and the sign, display and convention industries.

IUPAT District Council 82 endorses Congressman Rick Nolan in Minnesota’s 8th District

(Little Canada) The IUPAT District Council 82 announced this morning their official endorsement of Congressman Nolan for his 2016 re-election bid.

“Rick has been a strong advocate for our members while in Congress. He’s vocally opposed to the bad trade deals being pushed through Congress and supports legislation that helps our middle class, working families. He fights for our members and their families,” says Terry Nelson, Business Manager/Secretary Treasurer of IUPAT District Council 82.

“Rick has a track record of supporting the important issues that face our working families in northern Minnesota, unlike Stewart Mills who is now bringing his Fleet Farm chain stores into our communities with several non-union contractors that have resulted in pickets and work stoppage. Stewart Mills is no friend of Working Families!” said Craig Olson, President of District Council 82 and resident of the 8th Congressional District.

IUPAT District Council 82 Endorses Angie Craig in the Race for Minnesota’s Second Congressional District

“District Council 82 is very excited to stand behind Angie Craig in her bid for Minnesota’s 2nd district. While we generally don’t engage in endorsements this early, we recognize the unique opportunity we have to fight for this open seat, especially with a candidate like Angie,” said IUPAT District Council 82 Business Manager Terry Nelson.

Angie understands the strong impact of trade policy on the building and construction trades and will fight to support the rights of our workers. She supports the right of workers to collectively bargain for safer working conditions, good wages, and the ability to retire with dignity.”

The IUPAT District Council 82 represents hundreds of workers in Minnesota’s 2nd Congressional District and nearly 3,000 throughout Minnesota. IUPAT members work in commercial and industrial painting, glazing and glasswork, drywall finishing and the sign, display and convention industries.
